Liberty & Society Programme
10/29/2003

Mr Ron Manners
Chairman
Mannkal Economic Education Foundation
25 Richardson St
WEST PERTH 6050

Dear Ron,

The CIS is delighted that the Mannkal Foundation is prepared to support the Liberty and Society (L&S) programme. Naturally we think it is a far sighted decision. Thank you for taking into consideration the extra cost in bringing WA students to the conferences.

As you know the programme has had a profound influence on a number of the students who have attended. Even though it is only one weekend in a year it has given likeminded young people a chance to meet and too realise that they are not the only people in the world who think the way they do. Many keep in contact with each other and the CIS as they continue to explore free market ideas along side developing their careers. You may be interested in a note we received from an academic last week,

'Just a note to let you know one of our students, Phil Killicoat, who went to one of your Liberty and Society weekends last year and to the Advanced one last month has been naned the Rhodes Scholar for South Australia for 2003. And another of our students, Laura Roberts-Thompson who went to Liberty and Society a year or two earlier, was a runner-up and so is in the pool for one of the three national Rhodes. So many thanks to ClS for helping these bright young people in their professional development. They, like all the others we've nominated, have had nothing but the highest praise for that weekend programme you so kindly provide.'

Our next L&S will probably be in late April/early May 2004. We will start advertising early next year. We have found from experience that it is pointless to advertise in Nov/Dec/Jan (exams and holidays). We will be in contact early in the year with material you can use to promote the programme. Student can however apply all year with applications being available on the L&S website www.libertyandsociety.org
Any links to this site are always useful.

Once again many thanks for your assistance in this venture.
Yours sincerely,

Greg Lindsay
Executive Director
